The History of Meteorological Research and Development Center


The Research and Development Center (RDC) of the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications was established as a mission oriented research group on February 21, 1983, for the purposes of improving hazardous weather forecast and warning techniques, mitigating the casualty and capital loses caused by weather and climate phenomena, developing the numerical weather prediction models and monitoring world climate changes. Following the approval of the Meteorological Act on April 30, 1984, the Organizational Act was revised in the Legislative Yuan pasted by third reading on November 13, 1987, which allows the formal establishment of the RDC within the headquarters of the CWB.
